Your 24/7 Pocket Trainer

Live Body Coach has revolutionized real time fitness coaching by allowing users to have a trainer in their pocket 24/7. The Live Body Coach app gives users the ability to choose their own trainer based on their specific health and fitness goals, offering individually tailored guidance on the path to a healthy lifestyle. As members of Live Body Coach, users have access to a health and fitness tracking system, a social support system and a personal trainer, no matter where they are.

The problem

Live Body Coach approached us with growing concern about their low retention rate. They had between 1,000-1,200 new members signing up each day. However, their retention for long-term membership, as well as daily app usage levels, were not meeting expectations. Live Body Coach wanted to dramatically improve their website’s user experience because they realized their platform was difficult to navigate and acting as a deterrent for otherwise ideal users.

Cutting Down the Fat

Graphic Fusion launched a full scale investigation of the overall user experience and long-term usage model. We quickly determined that the user interface of the website was cumbersome and lacked an intuitive navigational structure. Live Body Coach offered an excellent program, but the site proved too difficult to traverse and users would simply give up on the program not long after joining. After evaluating their analytics information, we were able to determine where the users were entering and exiting the site, their bounce rates, time on the site and user behavior patterns. Through this process we were able to define and target Live Body Coach’s specific problem areas.

Case Study

Focus Groups

We conducted a series of well-rounded focus groups comprised of prospective Live Body Coach members of various age groups, fitness trainers, and health enthusiasts. These focus groups helped us uncover an unrecognized target demographic of 50+ users whose unique needs could be addressed to significantly improve the Live Body Coach website’s user experience. This new data was critical in determining which direction we would take in redesigning the new website’s interface.

Putting the Pieces Together

Now that we had determined the target demographic, we realized that the user experience (UX) needed to be heavily simplified for ease of use across a wide range of age groups.

We began restructuring the interface by simplifying the initial membership setup – creating a guided registration path with optimized content fills, removing redundant information re-entries from the process. Moving into the platform itself, we created an intuitive and well-organized navigation system, compartmentalizing different aspects of the program into their own categories and sections of the website, each with unique layouts and content mapping.

The Results

Tying the platform together, we implemented an aesthetically pleasing design centered around an earthen-toned color palette of greens and blues, specifically targeting the app’s female demographic while also serving as a vehicle for easy readability and a suggestion of wellbeing.
